At the core of our drinking chocolate collection is something truly unique: ceremonial-grade cacao. This is not your typical chocolate; it is a traditional ingredient with a rich history and an impressive range of natural benefits. For generations, cacao was much more than just food. It was a source of strength, a connection to the spiritual, and a central part of daily life for ancient civilisations. The Olmecs, Mayans, and Aztecs all held cacao in the highest regard, using it not only in rituals but also as a treasured gift from the gods.
Where It All Began
The Aztecs called their cacao drink xocolatl—meaning “bitter water.” Unlike the hot chocolate we enjoy today, their version was rich, bold, and unsweetened, made from roasted cacao beans, water, and often chilli or annatto. It was served cold, whipped into a frothy delight, and regarded as both sacred and powerful. The foam, in particular, held deep meaning and was seen as the most prized part of the drink.
Legend has it that the feathered serpent god, Quetzalcoatl, gifted the cacao tree to humankind. Drinking it wasn’t just about nourishment—it was a way to honour the divine and feel closer to the spiritual world.
Bringing Ancient Rituals into the Modern Day
Today, ceremonial cacao is enjoying a meaningful revival. We understand more about nutrition now, yet the deep respect for this incredible ingredient endures. Cacao is one of the most nutrient-dense plants on the planet, rich in essential minerals such as iron, magnesium, calcium, and zinc, as well as powerful antioxidants and natural compounds that may support emotional well-being and mental clarity.
Including cacao in your daily rhythm can bring gentle, lasting energy thanks to theobromine, a natural stimulant that offers a steadier lift than caffeine. When enjoyed with intention, cacao becomes much more than a comforting drink; it becomes a grounding moment of calm rooted in centuries of wisdom.
Crafted with Care and Intention
Each of our drinking chocolates carries this rich heritage. They’re all made with ceremonial-grade Peruvian Criollo cacao, but the varying cacao percentages of 71%, 62%, and 53% offer a range of flavours and experiences to suit different moods and moments.
Here’s a closer look at each, along with simple recipes to help you get the most from your cup:

It is a wonderfully comforting, flavourful cup.
62% Cacao – Smooth, Mellow, and Slightly Sweet
This one hits the sweet spot—literally. A well-rounded blend with fruity and nutty undertones, it’s ideal for those who enjoy a softer cacao flavour that’s still rich and satisfying.
